What are Lumineers?

Lumineers are a special type of ultra-thin veneers by Cerinate. Just like traditional veneers, Lumineers can reshape your smile and give you that perfect smile makeover. They can cover gaps between teeth and enhance the appearance of worn-down and discoloured teeth.

Lumineers can be placed without "shots" and drilling?

That's right. The idea is that ultra-thin porcelain veneers are so thin that they can be bonded directly to the surface of a tooth without needing to trim it back first. Since no drilling is involved, an anesthetic isn't needed either.

How thin are they?
Ultra-thin laminates are generally defined as those that can be crafted to tolerances as thin as .2 to .3 millimeters. That's less than 1/64th of an inch, and similar to the thickness of a contact lens.

Vs. regular veneers.
In comparison, the minimal thickness for a conventional porcelain veneer typically lies on the order of at least .5mm. That might not seem like much of a difference. But when an additional thickness is added to your tooth it really is.

What is the difference between Lumineers and standard porcelain veneers?

The main difference is that Lumineers are made from a special patented cerinate porcelain that is very strong but much thinner than traditional laboratory-fabricated veneers. Their thickness is comparable to contact lenses, and so they are often called contact lenses for your teeth. The main advantage of these ultra-thin veneers is that minimal tooth preparation is required. In other words, very little - if any - of your natural tooth structure needs to be removed through shaving or grinding prior to bonding the Lumineers over your natural teeth. As a result, the procedure is often reversible, since your natural tooth structure is left intact, unlike traditional veneers, where a significant amount of your tooth structure may need to be removed.

Lumineers are so versatile that they can be placed over existing crown and bridge work, without the need to replace them. They are the perfect solution for stained, chipped, discoloured or slightly misaligned teeth.

1st Visit
After your initial consultation, your Certified Lumineers Dentist will take an impression of your upper and lower teeth, and send the mold to an authorized Lumineers labratory along with photos and other records that ensure the very best case for you. Unlike traditional veneers, there is typically no need for extensive drilling, shots or unsightly acrylic temporaries.

2nd Visit
On your next visit, generally a couple weeks later, your dentist will place your Lumineers. Before Lumineers are bonded in place, it is important to try them on to ensure a good fit. Teeth are then moderately etched to prepare for placement and then bonded one by one. Your dentist will then check your bite to make sure your contacts are balanced to avoid chipping your Lumineers through the course of daily function.

That’s it. In only 2 easy and comfortable dental visits, you can have the beautiful natural looking smile you want!
